Horse Gram Substitute
It is a dark brown lentil which round and flattened in shape. Horse gram is known to have many therapeutic effects but not scientifically proven though it has been recommended in ayurvedic medicine to treat renal stones, piles,edema etc. It is rich in iron, calcium molybdenum, polyphenols which have high antioxidant capacity, and hemagluttinin which is a substance found in antibodies and autoimmune functions.
Horse Gram (Macrotyloma uniflorum) is one of the lesser known beans. The whole seeds of horse gram are generally utilized as cattle feed. However, it is consumed as a whole seed, as sprouts, or as whole meal in India, popular especially in southern Indian states. Medical uses of these legumes have been discussed. |

Horse gram helps in lowering cholestrol level and also reduces flatulence.
Women with menstural problem like heavy bleeding, and irregular periods can benefit by taking horse gramwater or intaking horse gram soups or horse gram sprouts to daily diet. Taking horse gram after delivery will stop the heavy bleeding. In general women can take 1 tspn of horse gram powder daily early in the morning. Pregnant women need to avoid this, but it can be taken only after delivery.
