Cauliflower

What is Cauliflower
A member of the cabbage family, Cauliflower originated from China. This vegetable is high in potassium, iron, and zinc. The most common variety is white but cauliflower also comes in green and purple.

White cauliflower is the most common colour of cauliflower.
Orange cauliflower (B. oleracea L. var. botrytis) contains 25 times the level of vitamin A of white varieties. This trait came from a natural mutant found in a cauliflower field in Canada.Cultivars include 'Cheddar' and 'Orange Bouquet'.
Green cauliflower, of the B. oleracea botrytis group, is sometimes called broccoflower. It is available both with the normal curd shape and a variant spiky curd called Romanesco broccoli. Both types have been commercially available in the U.S. and Europe.
Purple color in cauliflower is caused by the presence of the antioxidant group anthocyanins, which can also be found in red cabbage and red wine.Varieties include 'Graffiti' and 'Purple Cape'. 

You'll want to include cauliflower as one of the cruciferous vegetables you eat on a regular basis if you want to receive the fantastic health benefits provided by the cruciferous vegetable family.

Bitter Gourd

What is Bitter Gourd / Bitter Melon?

Bitter Gourd also called as bitter melon. Bitter Melon, also known as Momordica charantia or Karela is is a tropical and sub-tropical vine of the Cucurbitaceae family and is the most bitter of all fruits. The fruit is most often eaten when green and the skin is tender and edible. The plant contains several biologically active compounds, including charantin and momordicin, which help support healthy blood sugar levels when taken as a dietary supplement in conjunction with a sensible diet and fitness program.Bitter melon comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. The China phenotype is 20–30 cm long, oblong with bluntly tapering ends and pale green in color, with a gently undulating, warty surface. The bitter melon more typical of India has a narrower shape with pointed ends, and a surface covered with jagged, triangular "teeth" and ridges. It is green to white in color. Between these two extremes are any number of intermediate forms. Some bear miniature fruit of only 6–10 cm in length, which may be served individually as stuffed vegetables. These miniature fruit are popular in India and elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

Neem

What is Neem
Plants are made up of thousands of chemicals, and Neem is no different in this respect. However, scientists are particularly interested in one family of chemicals particular to Neem, and responsible for its' amazing properties.
These are the 'tetranortriperpenoids' or more specifically 'liminoids' - similar to steroids.
About 40 of these chemicals act together, producing a 'synergistic' or 'enhanced' affect.
The most active and well studied of these is 'Azadirachtin'.

Curry Leaves - All about curry leaves


What is Curry Leaves


Curry leaves is one of the fantastic aromatic herb used in many of dishes in Indian cuisine. Curry leaves known as Murraya koenigii is a tropical to sub tropical tree in the Rutaceae family which is a native to India. The curry leaves tree is a small tree about 4 to 6 m tall with a trunk up to 40cm diameter. The leaves are pinnate with 11 to 21 leaflets and each leaflet about 2-4 cm long and 1-2cm broad. These leaves are highly aromatic and have a nice fragrance. The curry leaves are highly valued as seasoning in southern and west coast Indian cooking and Sri Lankan cooking especially in curries and fried dishes.
